Moments Before Click Shutter

When the first time I have my first DSLR, the button that I always keep pressing is shutter button. I start aiming randomly and then press shutter multiple times. I have very itchy hand and when I am have a little time to rest, I will grab my DSLR and then start taking some random picture and I just keep pressing the shutter button many times until I am satisfied or when I am able to stop. When I see my photo in lightroom, most of the photo turn really bad and I delete all my photo and start again. Well, that is how I am really excited when the moment I hands Nikon D90.shutter Moments Before Click Shutter

During weekends, although I have full day of activity either serving volunteer in HOPE Worldwide Malaysia, or appointments that I have made in that day, I try to squeeze my time to take picture, and it is really random one. It is like pointing and shoot. and the image that I take is really huge number but there are no quality on the picture.

I am a bit discourage when I see the picture, but my adrenaline takes control me and I am inspired to take a nice picture that contain “ooohh” expression. Thanks for internet and many generous people that share their technique in photography and after I read a lot and see many example, I start to see different angle and view before I press the shuttle button.

When i see through my viewfinder, before i press the shutter button, i always asked myself what I really want to takes, what kind of effect, background, subject or reason I take this picture, then I am thinking what kind of story or emotion that i want to bring out with my photo. I always take a moment of breath before I took a picture or rapid shoot, and that moment of breath i imagine the final effect, result that will meet my expectation. With a little moment before I press shutter button, my image become alive and i get the final result exactly what I really want to achieve.

This trick can help for someone who has itchy hand like me. This can work even when you want to take candid shoot or sport shoot, the trick is prepare ahead of what you want to take and also imagine what is the final result that you really want to get. Losing patient can destroy your photo and if you just take the photo without thinking ahead, most of your photo probably really plain or boring.

Try this trick and post link of your photo after you apply this trick in comment box. I like to see the final result ^^.

My Habit in Photography

habit 300x201 My Habit in Photography

Many of you may heard that it is good to develop certain habits in photography. Some of my habit may not suitable for you but I believe generally some habits can be copy and develop. I read a lot of reading materials about photography habits and some of it I develop because I can see the benefit of doing that really helpful.

These are the things that I develop:

1. Shoot in RAW

My D90 offers RAW format, and since then I keep shooting RAW. Shooting in RAW means that you store image information direct from camera censor without compression or enhancement from image censor. In simple terms, when camera censor capturing and creating image when the shuttle is open, before it goes to memory card it will be compressed if you save your image into JPEG file.

Drawback of storing image in RAW is space!!!! My memory card only has 16 GB, which I can store up to 1000 images. if I save in highest quality JPEG file, i can save around 3000++ images. The different is very huge. Other than that the image will look quite blunt as it comes directly from camera so when you see in your camera screen, you will feel your image is not sharp compare you see in JPEG.

Although it takes a lot of spaces, RAW format offers tons of benefits in POST processing. I am purist and I like to have fully control on my images. One of greatest advantages shooting in RAW is I can have fully control over white balance. For myself, controlling white balance is really hard and it really needs a lot of practice, and RAW format really helps me to adjust when I am editing my photo.

2. Edit photo in Metadata

Since I use lightroom to edit my photo, I become love of it and it keep me using it for pass processing photo. Lightroom has a lot of advantages and cool features for editing photo for photographer, one of most significant is I can edit my photo without worry accidentally save it. The extra steps to edit in lightroom is there is necessary to import your photo and after you edit you need to export it, but they do not offer save directly to photo as lightroom edit metadata if your photo not really edit your photo ( google it for very detailed and geek explanations)

There are many habits that you can develop when you are taking pictures, and if you have interesting ones, share to me or put your website in comment box ^^
